[YEP-DC] Become a YEP- DC Member Today!

YEP-DC continues to expand as the largest YEP chapter nationally.  As we grow, we're challenging ourselves to provide unique, high-value programming to young education professionals that connects and empowers in big ways.

Across the District and the surrounding metro area, YEP-DC is known as the organization to meet dynamic players in education, deepen content knowledge through interactive events, and explore new career paths in the sector. Last year alone, we held 25 events, communicated 950 job opportunities, and grew our listserv by over 1,000 people. We understand we've built a rock solid reputation as a fully volunteer-run, "free" organization. We value our community and our place in it.

Recently we've thought deeply about how YEP-DC can foster the next generation of education leaders in the DMV area through new knowledge, career, and professional development programming.  We've concluded that formal membership will give our constituents the opportunity to participate in such programming on a scale and quality heretofore not offered.

At a cost of $25 annually, joining YEP-DC as a Member will provide you:

  • Exclusive access to our listserv, which communicates:

    • Bi-weekly job and internship postings in the DC area

    • Invitations to area education events

    • Information sharing via our blog Recess

  • Discounted admission to our signature events and programming:

    • YEP-DC annual conference (Members will save $20)

    • Edu-Jobs (Members will save $5)

    • Mentorship program *new programming* (Members will save $25)

    • Professional development workshops including Next Steps *new programming* (Members will save $25)

Those who choose not to become a dues-paying Member will be provided access to our basic listserv, which will message YEP-DC events and programming information only. Non-members are welcome to attend events and programs, but will not receive advance notice or discounted admission. The existing model of unpaid access to job postings and non-YEP specific events will be phased out on October 1, 2015.

I want to express my deep thanks for being a valuable part of the YEP-DC community as we expand our reach and impact. We hope you will join us as a YEP-DC Member!  You can do that here. I look forward to working with you—the next generation of education leaders.

Sincerely,

Laura Selvey

Vice President of Membership

YEP-DC

[YEP-DC] Thomas B. Fordham Institute - Research Internships Spring 2016

Research Intern

We are accepting applications for our Spring 2016 research internships through October 31, 2015. Please see below for more information about the internship and how to apply.

The Thomas B. Fordham Institute, based in Washington, D.C., provides several internships throughout the year. Fordham's research internships involve diverse and meaningful responsibilities, including:

1.     Research. The Fordham Institute's primary topics of interest are high standards; assessments and accountability systems; charter schools and school choice; curriculum and pedagogy; teacher quality; application of technology; and the federal role in education. We seek interns with experience and interest in the education field who can perform high-quality research and write clearly and convincingly. Research tasks include assisting with Fordham's ongoing research studies as well as smaller day-to-day projects.

2.     Commentary. The Fordham Institute is devoted exclusively to reforming K–12 education. One of the main ways in which we do this is through our ongoing commentary. These outlets include the weekly publication of an influential national magazine, The Education Gadfly; a lively, interactive website and blog; a weekly podcast segment; and the publication of opinion pieces in various national publications. Research interns frequently have the opportunity to contribute to these various media.

3.     Clerical duties. Fordham's national office is both busy and small. In addition to substantive responsibilities, interns are also expected to help out by fielding phone calls, staffing events, managing mail, answering e-mail queries, helping with the website, and other daily office duties.

Qualifications:

We seek resourceful, intelligent, organized, hard-working individuals who are capable of excelling in an intellectually stimulating and often intense work environment. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, strong writing skills, a deep interest in education, and proficiency in major Microsoft Office applications. Prior research experience a plus.

Candidates should be available to start in early January 2016. Note: All research internships are full-time positions (Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm).

The Thomas B. Fordham Institute is an equal opportunity employer. The position pays $13.80 per hour.

Please browse our website for more information about our organization.

TO APPLY:

Individuals interested in a research internship should submit a brief cover letter, resume, and no more than three page writing sample here.

The deadline for applications is October 31, 2015.
