Fields of Valley Forge
I remember as a child walkin' fields at Valley Forge
Soldiers in the bitter winter lived to fight the British scourge
Old Washington 'n Braddock locked in the battle's heat
Fighting for the victory, no quarter no retreat!
Was it pride that made 'em do it, or the hope of the common man
The dream of Thomas Jefferson, the birth of Uncle Sam
The passion of the moment when in History we are blessed
We measure terms of sacrifice in lives put to the test
First they dined on tea in Boston, then a charge up Bunker Hill
But the Minutemen were ready, 'n cut 'em down with shell
Then South to Philadelphia, and a brawl at Brandywine
Crossin' ice flows in the Delaware to route the Hessian line
I remember as a child walkin' fields at Valley Forge
Soldiers lived 'n died there dur'n the Revolution War
And I thank those 'merican patriots, 'n thank Grace from above
For wining us our freedom, from the labor of their love
I remember as a child walkin' fields at Valley Forge…
