Hey folks. I'm in search of a hall for the Bluegrass Country radio benefit on April 23. My brilliant plan was a high school auditorium -- but April is spring play season. I'm looking for 700+ seats. Perhaps a church? If anybody has any ideas or a connection to a venue, please let me know.--
thx
Randy

Subject: Doc's Bluegrass Newsletter for 1-24-17
Back from 3 weeks of playing & sightseeing in the Caribbean & visiting old friends in Florida. Now back to business (or what passes for business in an old, retired guy). I've updated the newsletter. See http://www.docsbluegrass.net/bluegrass-newsletter.html. Please let me know which other jams I should be adding. Some jams have no web site that I can check on. So if any of you want your jams in the newsletter, let me know. I need dates, times, locations, & contact info (preferably a web link but a phone # or e-mail address will do).
I haven't played since disembarking Danny Stewart's bluegrass cruise on Jan. 9th & I'm jonesing for a jam! Tomorrow night I'll get back in the saddle!

Common Ground on the Hill Announces Charm City Junction
WESTMINSTER, MD - SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2017 at 8 PM
Nominees for International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Band Momentum Award
Formed in 2014, Charm City Junction has taken the acoustic music scene by storm performing around the country gaining high praise along the way for their high-energy, captivating and dynamic performances. Patrick McAvinue, one of the most in-demand and highly respected bluegrass fiddlers in the country, takes charge with his virtuosic, powerful and musical approach to the fiddle. Clawhammer banjo wizard Brad Kolodner, winner of the 2016 IBMA Momentum Award for Industry Involvement, adds his playful, driving, melodic and groovy Old-Time touch. Sean McComiskey, an incredibly talented Irish button accordion player, soars through the tunes and fills the gaps with his soulful playing. The versatile bassist Alex Lacquement drives the train, locking everything together with his commanding and tasteful choices. Drawing from separate musical backgrounds, the four members have found a common ground on which to develop their unique approach. Since releasing their highly anticipated debut album on Patuxent Music in the fall of 2015, Charm City Junction has performed at Grey Fox, The Kennedy Center, Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival, Strathmore Hall and they were an Official Showcase Band at the 2015 IBMA Convention.

For the DC Bluegrass Festival at the Sheraton Tysons Hotel, some volunteers could greatly help with setting up and breaking down the stage equipment, etc. ahead of the opening on Friday and/or at the close on Saturday. For your efforts, DCBU offers a festival pass for the day(s) you volunteer.
For about two hours each, Friday helpers are needed at 12 noon and Saturday night helpers are needed at around 11 PM. There also are some volunteer slots still open during the festival on Friday. Please email dcbuvol@gmail.com and let me know when you could lend a hand. Thank you for helping out!
- Doug Mitchell
P.S. Review the festival's schedule at http://dcbluegrassfest.org/schedule/. Purchase tickets at http://dcbluegrassfest.org/tickets/. The hotel's guarantee for our group's discounted room rate ends February 5th, so best not to wait.
