Position Summary
DC Scholars is seeking a part-time Middle School Special Education Teacher who believes that all students should be held to high academic standards. He or she will cultivate a strong culture of achievement, and lead classroom communities where students are engaged and self-motivated. This position is based at DC Scholars Public Charter School in the 2016 - 2017 academic year.

Job Requirements
Responsibilities:
Your Work
- Plan towards and provide excellent instruction, making every minute count in your classroom.
- Provide differentiated learning opportunities for every student.
- Set and reinforce clear expectations for student behavior.
- Receive feedback and coaching from school leaders.
- Collaborate with other teachers to increase student engagement and achievement.
- Reward positive student behavior and hold students accountable using school-wide systems.
- Engage with family members regularly and participate in school-wide family engagement activities including home visits, phone calls to family members, and school-based meetings with families.
- Create, modify and carry out Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students included within a caseload.
- Provide appropriate modifications and accommodations in accordance with each student's IEP.
- Monitor progress of each student's IEP goals on a regular basis.
- Co-teach in an inclusion setting with a general education teacher. Collaborate with this teacher in lesson planning and classroom management. Both teachers will take accountability for all learners with the classroom.
- Teach all subject areas within a self-contained classroom. Provide instruction that is tailored to the needs of each individual student while still aligned with grade level state standards.
- Provide small group instruction including developing materials, lessons, homework assignments based on state standards and school-wide goals for achievement
- Support students who have behavioral, academic or social disabilities
- Collaborate with general instruction teachers to meet the needs of all learners and to design effective instructional and behavioral plans

Educational Background and Work Experience
- Experience driving student achievement results, preferably in an urban public or charter school.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Must have or be working towards in-state teacher certification
