[dcab-l] Fingerstyle Blues for Beginners and Intermediates

Hi all,

Please pardon the self-promotion. Also, this is bluegrass related, as
Doc Watson (and most other flatpickers) have played a lot of
fingerstyle blues...:)

Over the last few months I have developed (and used in lessons) a
"deep dive" program for beginners and intermediates who want to learn
proper fingerstyle blues from the ground up.

A lot of the books out there for fingerstyle acoustic blues have great
material in them, but most of the beginner books are not really built
for true beginners in the style. I've filled in those gaps.

Most good acoustic blues playing is built around very simple concepts.
The trick is to master those basics first, and then move on to more
sophisticated licks.

You will learn to play *easy* acoustic blues pieces in the common
guitar keys of C, G, D, A, E and open tunings. The styles of the
pieces range from Ragtime to Piedmont/Travis to Delta to Shuffle to
bluesy jazz.

We'll go at your pace. We'll use a metronome. The material is written
in TAB combined with standard notation. You will learn to count
properly and syncopate to get that true blues feel. Some of the pieces
are multi-part, allowing for good jamming with two or more players.

No set scheduling. Once a week, once a month, once a year, whatever
works for you. I can fit most schedules. My rates are here:
http://www.novaguitarlessons.com/#rates

BTW - Gift certificates are a great holiday present!

Thanks for listening and happy picking!

Best regards,

Dirk Johnson

[YEP-DC] New YEP-DC blog post: Have America's Seniors Stagnated for 40 Years?

The ed world was abuzz last month with the release of the 2015 results of the National Assessment of Educational Progress, as researchers, policymakers, and educators tried to parse the latest scores. And while many commentators jumped on the flat or declining scores for fourth and eighth graders, Recess's Phillip Burgoyne-Allen thinks there's a bigger story: the long-term performance of America's high school seniors, which has remained flat since the 1970s. Read it all on Recess!
