[YEP-DC] Event: What Happens in the Classroom is Only the Beginning: Effective Teachers and Community Supports

Good Morning! The YEP-DC Programming Team invites all of you to join us for our next roundtable event on October 29th to discuss the role of community organizations in supporting the work of teachers and schools. This will be a lively, informal hour-long conversation with three guest speaks, including Joan Massey (CEO of the Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools). We are in the process of confirming the others, so stay tuned for more details in the next week.

Education practitioners, policy analysts and researchers all agree on one thing: The quality of a teacher has a meaningful impact on the education outcomes of students. But education doesn't only happen in the classroom. Afterschool and expanded learning programs, community groups and recreational activities complement a teacher's efforts and play an important role in preparing students to succeed academically. As the District of Columbia and other states begin to pursue comprehensive strategies to increase equitable access to highly effective teachers, YEP-DC invites members to engage in a conversation about the relationship between teaching and out-of-school services designed to support students and provide additional resources for their families.
