[YEP-DC] National Education and Mobilization Manager with Hope Street Group

Position Summary

As a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial organization that aims to achieve extraordinary goals, Hope Street Group seeks a dynamic individual to become a National Manager for our National Teacher Fellows Program. This position reports to the Director of Educator Engagement and works with all Hope Street Group staff to implement Hope Street Group's National Teacher Fellows Program and inform best practice for the State Teacher Fellows Program.

The National Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing the National Teacher Fellows program by: building, collecting, and aggregating teacher voice and perspectives; and assisting teachers in their role serving as spokespeople for the profession and improvement in education policy. Over the course of the 2015 - 2016 school year, National Teacher Fellows (NTFs) will gather educator perceptions, to create teacher-led recommendations around a particular topic that will be delivered to the U.S. Department of Education and other national policymakers and organizations.

In addition, the National Manager will oversee and implement the selections process of Teacher Fellows across the organization as well as work with the National staff to identify partnership opportunities with national organizations to further the mission of the organization.

I hope this finds each of you well. I am reaching out to let you know that I am stepping down as YEP-DC President, effective 7.31. It's been an amazing 3 years serving on the Executive Board of YEP-DC, first as VP of Programming and then as President, but it's time to pass the torch to someone else. I'm happy to announce that Jeremy Meredith, current Strategy and Planning Advisor on the Executive Board, will be stepping up as the new President.

Become a Childcare Volunteer with Generation Hope!

Do you love playing with children? Is reading Dr. Seuss and making Play-Doh castles your idea of a great Saturday morning? If so, join Generation Hope's Childcare Volunteer Program!

Generation Hope is currently looking for Childcare Volunteers for our next Scholar training on Saturday, August 8th, 2015. Our "Ready...Set...College!" Academic Bootcamp for our Scholars will be taking place on that day, and we're seeking fun-loving, passionate Volunteers who will provide childcare to our Scholars' children, while Scholars participate in this day-long training. We have multiple shifts available throughout the day!

What are looking for in our Volunteers?

Passion for working with children & youth (ages 3 months - 10 years);
Ability to work with people from different racial, class, cultural backgrounds;
Commitment to Generation Hope values of family, education, support, and acceptance;
Weekend availability;
CPR/First Aid/AED training a plus;
Experience in early childhood education a plus;
Experience working with young parents a plus;
Proficiency in Spanish a plus.

About Generation Hope:

Founded in 2010, Generation Hope selects teen parents who have displayed academic achievement and a desire to go to college to become Scholars in the Generation Hope Scholar Program. Teen parents are often dismissed by school officials and others when it comes to their potential to pursue higher education. Generation Hope presents college-readiness workshops in the community throughout the year to identify and recruit promising students to our program. Once accepted, Generation Hope provides each Scholar with support that we believe increase the likelihood that they will obtain their college degree; up to $2,400 per year in tuition assistance and one-on-one mentoring. Additionally, Scholars receive an increased network of support from the extended family that the program provides to them and to their young children. This support stays with Scholars until they earn their two or four-year degree.

Generation Hope currently serves nearly 65 teen parents in college and 200 expecting or parenting high school students annually through college-readiness workshops. In July 2015, Generation Hope began a significant three-year growth plan, doubling from 40 to 65 Scholars with a goal of serving 100 parenting college students by 2018.

Reading Partners' early intervention literacy programs operate in reading centers in partnering elementary schools in Washington, DC. POSITION SUMMARY

The AmeriCorps Site Coordinator leads the day-to-day operations of Reading Partners school sites for a full 11-month service term (August - June). Site Coordinators are placed in partner schools where they oversee the full-time operations of a Reading Partners reading center. This includes student assessments, tutoring, and coordination of an average of 35-80 volunteer tutors. Site Coordinators may have the opportunity to participate in community engagement activities throughout the term.

The Site Coordinator is also responsible for cultivating positive relationships between Reading Partners and the school community. Site Coordinators receive ongoing instruction and coaching from Reading Partners staff and report to and work with a Program Manager, a staff member with a strong educational background, who provides direct instruction and coaching.

The Reading Partners program operates from 9am-5pm, Monday - Friday. Hours may vary slightly, depending on the region and school site. AmeriCorps members frequently participate in professional development trainings and team volunteer activities, such as National Days of Service. Some weekend hours may be required.

Reading Partners is a nonprofit literacy organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to provide one-on-one reading tutoring to students in under-resourced schools across the country.
