Hey Folks, the band has a gig coming up in May that I'd like to tell you about, so I hope you''ll endure a longer post. There have been some adjustments under the hood for the band that I'd like to expand upon.
Janine Lewis will be doing some travelling going forward, so I've added another fiddle player to the line up to cover- Willie Marschner. Fiddlin' Willie brings youthful energy and exuberance to the band that were fortunate to have on hand. The kid is all that I've heard him to be, and the bluesy rep that we do brings it out loud and clear.
If your unfamiliar with the band, we do bluesgrass. Not bluegrass per se. No banjo, light on the bluegrass repertoire, lots of acoustic blues. Roger Hart was added on percussion a couple of gigs ago, to add a Cajon groove that definitely lends depth and punch to the sound. And he plays harp like few others in town, and added bonus.
John Relph and Nancy Lisi are still here. John is the coolest mando guy around and Nancy's bass is earthy and strong. Really, I'm grateful for their participation after 5 years. Crazy how time passes!
I try to keep them challenged by reimagining cover tunes (by changing progressions), arranging medleys, and writing originals. Not really one to let things get stale, I keep things fresh. (kind of an inside joke). I hate the thought of being predictable, so I look to arrange familiar music in new ways. You will recognize most of the songs but rearranged to fit our style.
One thing we need is more musicians in the audience. Yes, considering how busy we all are, its an ask, but nothing gets you going like musicians in the audience. If you get out already- congrats and more power to you- but I can say there's no other band that rolls the way we do. It will be worth the trip.
If the idea of Doc Watson, Bill Withers, Keb Mo and Bill Monroe jamming with a lights out Kid fiddle player sounds interesting, join us in Silver Spring at the Quarry House Tavern on May 4th.
More info to come on the particulars.
