Re: [dcab-l] A Long-lost Member with an Important Announcement

Hi John! Great to hear from you and glad to hear you're doing well and are back into playing. Let us know how to get the CD when it come out.

I spent some time in Tucson back before the turn of the century (how I love using that phrase!). Arizona has a couple of really great bluegrass bands back then - Peter McLaughlin and Tom Rozum had the great Flying South band. I used to see them in Flagstaff. Peter is living in Tucson, I believe. And there were the excellent Tita Valley Warheads with Dick Brown on banjo. Saw them at a bluegrass festival up in Prescott as a surprise band, and ran into them again as entertainment at a convention dinner at Old Tucson. Dick, of course, went on to fame, if not fortune, with Lost Highway.

Keep an ear open for more great music out there, John. And stay in touch!

As a matter of fact, I do speak for my iPad.

Hello Folks:

John McCann here; a long-lost member who probably last posted perhaps fifteen years ago.  The quick story to catch you up: retired in July of 2014, moved to Tucson in June of 2015 and am now happily living the good life here in southeastern Arizona with my spouse, Emily.

Seemingly against all odds, late last summer I had the amazing good fortune to have fallen in with some absolutely top-flight bluegrass musicians here in Tucson who I found at a regular Desert Bluegrass Association jam that occurs the fourth Sunday of every month at a restaurant about a half a mile from my house.  Anyway, cutting to the chase, we went into a local recording studio in February and our first CD will drop, (as they now say), in about a week.  If I say so myself, it's a pretty darn good product.  I shared two cuts with list member Amanda Lee, so you can ask her, and she told me she shared those cuts with Barb Diederich, so you can ask her as well; (shout-out to both of you)!

In closely related news, we'll be opening the Marana Bluegrass festival on Friday, March 13, and by way of promoting that event, (and our new CD), we're going to be on Tucson's one bluegrass show which airs on our local community / alternative radio station, KXCI, on Saturday, March 7.  The show is from noon to 2:00 pm eastern time, and we'll be on in the second hour doing some material live in the KXCI studio.  You can hear us there in the DC area by asking your echo device to play KXCI on tune-in, or by going to the KXCI website and accessing the live stream.

Okay, that's all I have for now, and great to be back in touch with my friends and fellow pickers in the Washington DC area.

John
