Friends of Christmas Present:
This is the 11th year my son Woody and I have recorded a Christmas song. Others
we've done in years past:
2009 "Star of Bethlehem"
2010 "Silent Night"
2011 "Silver Bells"
2012 "Blue Christmas"
2013 "White Christmas"
2014 "Winter Wonderland"
2015 "The Friendly Beasts"
2016 "Away in a Manger"
2017 “The First Noel”
2018 “Santa Clause is Coming to Town”
For 2019 we've recorded "Holly Jolly Christmas". Woody did the recording, mixing,
slide guitar, and sang tenor and baritone harmonies. Dad sang lead and played the
guitar and bass. I used an 09 Martin Marquis for guitar, and Woody’s fretted bass.
“Holly Jolly Christmas" was composed by Johnny Marks in 1964; the song was
featured in the CBS-TV Rankin/Bass animated special: Rudolph The Red-Nosed
Reindeer, with Burl Ives singing lead. Ives re-recorded the song again in 1965 and
released it as a single. This version of the song has a somewhat slower arrangement
than the animated special version, and features an acoustic guitar solo introduction; it is
this version that has since become the more commonly heard rendition on radio.
Please enjoy, and Woody and I wish everyone a happy and prosperous Holiday Season!
