EVIE LADIN & KEITH TERRY
neo-trad kinetic roots duo
http://www.evieladin.com/evie-ladin-keith-terry-duo/
Tenacious, innovative string musicians/dancers with a quirky neo-trad heart, Evie Ladin & Keith Terry throw down soulful folk songs with an unusual live show. While their third release, the 2016 Jump the Fire brought a feature in the San Francisco Chronicle, it's the effusive audience response that keeps them touring around the world. Evie Ladin & Keith Terry lead a double life, between the Trad/Folk Circuit and the International Body Music Scene. It's the intermingling of music and dance, adventurous visual rhythms, with clever lyrics and mature arrangements, that make the DUO show so potent, the performance experience a stand-out.

Peace,
Lisa Kay

[dcab-l] Gravel Road at Seven Corners, Next Saturday...

Hey Everybody- for your consideration-

Here's an invite to my musician friends and music listeners to come and check out some cool music in Falls Church on Saturday Feb 24. I've collected some cool songs and musicians and put together a show that you won't find anywhere else. Grassy, yes! Thats at the core, but so is the blues. Blues and bluegrass are kinda the same, it just depends on what side of the tracks you call home. ' Bluesgrass', I've called it for the last few years.

I also rearrange standards to provide a new take and keep things recognizable and new.

OK, there you have it- but I'd add that we ALL get a kick out of seeing musicians in the crowd. I do my best to get out and support, so heres my appeal to you to do the same- regardless of the performer- and would hope that your busy schedule allows you to visit Falls Church on a Saturday night. If it does that would be great!  The place holds 100 people don't think there won't be room at the end of the trip.

My 2018 mantra is "its a bridge, not a wall" so I'll be showing my face in MD to support the music. Here's a shout to my MD buds to drop on by to do the same in VA.

The last Saturday night in February is just a week away- which means I'll be holding court at 7 Corners Pub with Nancy, Kiki, and once again Jeanine Lewis helping with the fiddle.

Always interested in expanding the repertoire- so expect something cool and different to be added to the setlist.  The Gravel Road Band plays a night of Bluesgrass- think bluegrass and blues meet up for drinks, and end up having a baby…or just think of having a fun night out with good folks. Matt Slocum and the Gravel Road Band presents a live show thats unpredictably fresh: blues, bluegrass, folk, and R&B flavored concoctions that pour from the soul and will leave you shaken, stirred and smiling.

Janine Lewis provides the fiddle fireworks for the evening!

I'll be bringing a PA system, so the sound will be SO much better!

Hope you can make it!

[dcab-l] Traditional Fiddle Tune: Cherokee Shuffle

Songwriters & Music Lovers:

Fiddle tunes are intricate traditional melodies coming to North America from the

British Isles, mainly Scottish and Irish.  These tunes were played in the Appalachian

Mountains for over 3 centuries, and maintained their original essence with little

change.  They have found their way into America’s Country and Bluegrass

repertoire, and they’re played often jam sessions.  The format to most fiddle tunes

is AABB, theme and variations, passed around to each lead instrument.

Cherokee Shuffle is one of these standards.  The first recorded version was by

fiddler Tommy Magness in the 1930’s.  Tommy Jackson, a monumental country

fiddler, is generally credited with transforming Magness’ rendition into “Cherokee

Shuffle” in the key of A.

Thomas Lee "Tommy" Jackson, Jr. (1926–1979) was an American fiddler, regarded

as one of the finest commercial fiddle players of all time.   He played on hundreds

of country records from the 1940s to the 1970s, and it has been claimed that he has

probably been heard on more country records than any other musician.

Between the late 1940s and 1960s, he also recorded many hoedown albums (fiddle

tunes) under his own name, for the Mercury, Decca, and Dot labels.  Many of his

fiddle tune recordings are now regarded as definitive versions.

This Rattlesnake Hill version was performed at Cactus Flats Restaurant, just north

of Frederick, Md and features the famous banjo picker Keith Arneson who played

with the Navy Band Country Current for 24 years.   Line up:

Keith Arneson       Banjo

Doug Moats          Bass   (Beardy)

Ed Schaeffer        Rhythm Guitar

Ken Wise              Mandolin
