On average, it costs $24,250 and takes 1512 hours to become certified to teach in the U.S. today. Such a large investment should produce effective teachers, but the best available evidence shows it doesn't. Even though we don't yet know how to train teachers to be successful, getting certified is still a requirement for those who want to enter the classroom. So what should prospective teachers do?
