[dcab-l] Bluegrass jamming class, 11/1 through 11/22, in Olney, Maryland

With just over three weeks to go, I'm looking forward to my fall bluegrass jamming class in Olney, Maryland. The class will be held on four successive Sundays--11/1, 11/98, 11/15, and 11/22--from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM each day, and is open to players of all the bluegrass instruments. (If you'd like to participate on an instrument that's outside of the bluegrass norm, please get in touch with me and we can discuss it.)

So far there's room for plenty more participants. So if you'd like  to make the leap from playing alone to jamming with others who share the love of bluegrass, you can find out more at http://jamclasses.drbanjo.com/jamclasses/ig-2015-11/class_page/. And if you know anyone who's been itching to do the same, please pass the info along. There's nothing better than making music with your friends!

[dcab-l] IBMA 2015 - The Business Conference

One of the things I enjoy each year is seeing all the young pickers. I really liked all the college BG music programs that had showcases. I saw sets by the ETSU Pride Band and the group from Morehead State University. Students from Denison University were part of the Fincastle 50th Anniversary celebration. All were very talented and played with great enthusiasm. I talked with many of them afterwards and told them how nice it was to have them learning about bluegrass. I think they appreciated positive feedback and support coming from an older guy like me!!

[dcab-l] IBMA 2015 - The Business Conference

I've just posted my blog entry on the IBMA Business Conference. While
I've tried to be comprehensive, it's truly impossible to give the entire
broad range of activities their due. I'd love to hear your reactions to
the post as well as what you found to be your highlights of the Business
Conference. - Ted

[YEP-DC] YEP-DC Job Posting Guidelines-NEW Changes

With the implementation of the new YEP-DC membership program, YEP-DC has revised its job posting guidelines.

All postings to YEP-DC Paid Members are moderated by the YEP-DC Leadership Team. Any employer may post a message if it fits into the guidelines below. In some cases, which are noted below, the posting may be more appropriate for the Young Education Professionals-DC LinkedIn group.

Wherever mentioned below, "education" refers to policy, research, or practice in the field of education at any level, and also includes youth and workforce development. This definition encompasses work focused locally, nationally, or internationally, though regional limitations are sometimes indicated.

Acceptable Postings:

  • Job/internship postings related to education

  • Upcoming local events related to education in the DC metro area (DC, VA, MD)

  • Calls for involvement in research projects or papers focused on education

  • Requests for volunteers on education-related endeavors

Unacceptable Postings:

  • Any postings not related to education

  • Any postings for positions not in the DC metro area (DC, VA, MD)

  • Sales emails of any kind, even those related to education

  • Upcoming events that are not in the DC metro area (DC, VA, MD)

  • Recently released research/information focused on education (The LinkedIn group is the appropriate venue for this communication.)

  • News/blog articles or podcasts unless directly related to YEP-DC promotional items (The LinkedIn group is the appropriate venue for this communication.)

***Repeat postings about the same job, event, etc. will be rejected unless the post is YEP-DC sponsored.  In order to keep the listserv streamlined, we also encourage employers to combine job postings.***

If you are looking for volunteers or job applicants on a regular basis for the same position then we allow for new postings every three months. We recommend making it clear in those postings that you are often looking for volunteers/applicants and that people can contact you at any time to check in.

PROCEDURE

  1. Employers should send an email to to dc@youngedprofessionals.org.

  2. The subject line must be in the format of "Type of Posting: Subject Line". For instance, a job posting will be in the format "Job Posting: Job at Local Non-profit," or "Event: Event at Local Non-Profit."

  3. The email will be conveyed to a moderator's queue to determine whether the message is relevant for the listserv.

  4. Once reviewed and accepted, the message will be sent to YEP-DC Paid Members' listserv.

* Please allow up to three business days for the messages to appear on this listserv. Excluded messages will be returned to the sender with a brief explanation for that exclusion.

RULES

  • The YEP-DC Paid Members' listserv is a listserv with messages under review by the YEP-DC Leadership Team.
  • Messages to the listserv must pertain to YEP-DC and its mission.

  • Prohibited content includes political, religious and commercial material; obscenities and personal attacks.

  • Political material is defined as messages that give a viewpoint on a political candidate, party or policy; regardless of whether that candidate, party or policy is in office or enacted.

  • Listserv members will observe other individuals' rights to privacy and all applicable U.S. laws, such as copyright.

  • Members are expected to follow widely accepted rules of e-mail etiquette.

  • Attachments, graphics, forwards, petitions and chain letters are prohibited.

  • E-mail addresses cannot be used for any purpose outside YEP-DC without explicit consent of the email address owner.

  • Members who find postings objectionable are encouraged to contact the moderator rather than replying to the list.

  • Members who post inappropriate messages will be contacted by the moderator who will send a standardized warning about the infraction.

  • Listserv members who habitually break listserv rules will have their messages reviewed by the Moderator before posting.

  • Listserv instructions, rules and guidelines will be perpetually available on the YEP-DC website.
