[YEP-DC] New Recess blog post on supportive classrooms for LGBT students

"Educators: For every 100 students you teach, three will identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) at some point in their life." Do you create a classroom environment that supports these youth? Or do you shrink away from addressing these issues in class? Wenna Price, a blogger at YEP-DC's Recess, offers some concrete steps for any educator wanting to create a supportive environment for LGBT students -- or any students at risk of bullying.

Trying is an honorable failure. Make sure you are DOING all you can everyday!

Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so..
Love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don't.
Believe that everything happens for a reason.
If you get a chance , TAKE IT!
If it changes your life , LET IT!
Nobody said it would be easy...
They just promised it would be worth it!

[YEP-DC] Join us THIS WEDNESDAY, 9/4 for the Education Innovation Fellowship Info Session

Don't forget to join us this Wednesday, September 4 to learn more about the 2014 Education Innovation Fellowship:

Wednesday, Sept 4

6:30-7:30

Anne Beers Elementary School

3600 Alabama Ave.,

CityBridge Foundation and NewSchools Venture Fund launched the Education Innovation Fellowship program in 2013 with an inaugural cohort of 12 Fellows. This year-long program introduces teacher leaders to the most promising innovations in blended learning and offers them opportunities to pilot blended models in their schools. With the support of a $1 million grant from the Microsoft Corporation, the Fellowship will expand in 2014 and 2015, launching classroom and school-wide innovation in dozens of Washington, D.C. schools. The Fellowship is a strategic investment in great teachers—the classroom leaders who can become natural change agents for their schools, using digital content and tools to drive instructional innovation.

In November of 2013, we will select 16 to 20 new Fellows from a pool of qualified applicants currently teaching in District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and D.C. public charter schools. The Fellowship program will run from January through December 2014. It will include local and national school visits, workshops, seminars, guest speakers, and technology demonstrations. Fellows will design and lead their blended learning pilot programs in summer school and expand them in their classrooms and schools in the 2014-2015 school year.

If you can't join us on 9/4, we hope to see you on the 18th:

Wednesday, September 18

6:30-7:30 pm
