REGIONAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Washington, D.C.

Leading Educators develops teacher-leaders in order to raise student achievement and retain talented educators in urban schools. We aim to ensure that public education successfully trains its middle managers, thus retaining our best teachers and bolstering the pipeline of future principals.
 
To date, Leading Educators has trained 41 teacher-leaders in its New Orleans pilot region. Building upon the New Orleans region and Teaching Leaders (UK), Leading Educators is now an independent 501c3 organization assembling an ambitious team to expand the program nationally. In New Orleans and the first national expansion site, Kansas City, we are currently working with 106 teacher-leaders across over 60 schools. Our expansion model aims to serve 12 regions by 2016.
 
Leading Educators has also launched a new business line in which the organization provides customized teacher leadership development consulting to districts, Charter Management Organizations (CMOs), schools and non-profit organizations to maximize leadership development in order to bolster the talent pipeline and, in turn, increase student achievement and teacher skillfulness and sustainability. This contract-based work has included delivery of training modules; recruitment, selection, and retention consulting; train-the-trainer projects; and evaluation consulting in Houston, Minneapolis, and Brooklyn.

The Executive Director is an entrepreneur responsible for day-to-day leadership for a startup region; ensuring programmatic offerings achieve their objectives. 
 
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, the Executive Director will manage the regional team, its deliverables, and its overall success.  The Executive Director will create and execute formal contracts with multiple partner districts and organizations.
Joining an ambitious organization at a critical growth stage in its national expansion, the Executive Director will shape systems, cultivate a dynamic and dedicated team, and build a foundation for sustainable programmatic and fiscal growth in a new geographic region.

Responsibilities: 

Overall Program Leadership and Management
  • Start-up and operationalize a new regional program site to effectively deliver high-quality professional development for teacher-leaders serving in high-needs public schools 
Participant Recruitment:  Attraction and Selection
  • Develop and implement teacher-leader recruitment process, including systems for tracking outreach, creating local marketing materials, and building a robust educator pipeline
  • Collaborate with national team to refine overall Selection Criteria, Participant Profile, Application materials and Selection Process
  • Manage regional teacher-leader Selection Process, including Interview and Assessment sessions
 
Community Partnerships
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Leading Educators and regional district and charter school networks
  • Build organization's profile within a new geography, coordinating with partner organizations, school stakeholders, and philanthropic entities
 
Talent Management
  • Recruit talented staff and forge a mission-focused team
  • Lead and manage team performance in order to ensure high quality program delivery within accelerated start-up time frame
  • Direct reports likely to include regional Leadership Coaches and Program Experience Manager
 
Finance and Administration - Systems Management
  • Oversee site budget, finances and data management systems
  • Ensure organizational infrastructure and operations provide effective support to program work streams
 
Development
  • Responsible for creating and meeting local fundraising goals via cultivation and management of donor relationships, grant-writing, and compliance/reporting 
 
Program Delivery and Evaluation
Collaborate with Chief Program Officer, Data Manager, and regional Coaches to ensure strategic evaluation of program delivery toward overall regional efficacy 

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with an emphasis in education
  • A bachelor's degree
  • Commitment to creating outstanding schools in support of social justice and educational equity
  • Experience in the non-profit sector or work within similar programmatic structures
  • Enjoy working to ambitious timelines for accelerated launch in a start-up, entrepreneurial environment
  • Knowledge of successful grant writing and donor cultivation/management processes
  • Capacity for shaping a growing team and establishing systems
  • Dynamic interpersonal and people management skills
  • Excellent project management, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail within the context of the larger strategic goals
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office applications required; strong database skills, familiarity with Salesforce a plus; social networking and marketing experience highly desirable

Development Intern:

The Development Intern will work closely with CPE's Deputy Director and Development Associate to manage, implement and expand all activities relating to fundraising, donor stewardship, marketing, communications, and special events.

Responsibilities include:

  •         Grant and individual donor research
  •         Grant writing and reporting
  •         Donor recognition correspondence
  •         Development and production of CPE communication materials, including the CPE newsletter and Annual Report
  •         Fundraising database management (we use Salesforce)
  •         Event planning
  •         Managing social media accounts for the organization
  •         Providing administrative support to the Deputy Director and Development Associate as needed.

Qualifications include:

  •         Interest in working at a non-profit and serving low-income youth in the DC Metropolitan Area
  •         Interest in nonprofit fundraising, communications, and organizational management
  •         Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  •         Ability to work in a small, fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  •         Friendly and personable demeanor
  •         Strong command of Microsoft Office applications
  •         Upperclassmen undergraduate students and graduate students are preferred

General information:

  •          Internship schedules are flexible, but 12 -15 hours/week and at least 3 days per week minimum are required.
  •          Start and end dates are flexible.

Opportunity Scholarships and Outreach Programs at Northeastern University is currently interviewing for Graduate Assistants and/or Interns for the Summer Immersion Program Coordinators (2 positions).
Overview of the Office of Opportunity Scholarship an
d Outreach Programs.

The Office of Opportunity Scholarships and Outreach Programs (OSOP) at Northeastern University is committed to serving nearly 200 first-generation, low-income students of diverse backgrounds through student programming and holistic support services beginning with a pre-college summer immersion and following each student through graduation and alumni services. The office works as a team to practice student-centered advising, life-skills coaching, holistic support, and retention plans through five different scholarship programs geared toward the specific needs of first-generation, low-income students at a rigorous five-year university. 

The unit manages the non-cognitive selection process for the competitive Torch Scholars Program, where 400 students from across the nation apply for a full scholarship and support services. A cohort of 10 scholars is selected each year. 

The Torch Scholars Program (Torch) at Northeastern University is dedicated to closing the achievement gap for first-generation, low-income students through a two-pronged effort: a full scholarship covering a pre-college program and eight subsequent semesters of study, and a comprehensive support program that is designed to improve the college retention rate, leadership opportunities, social capital, and academic achievement of each student.

Descriptions of Available Positions: 
Two Graduate Assistants are needed to manage the day-to-day program of a 6-week summer immersion program for 10 first-generation college students in the Torch Scholars Program. Graduate Assistants work as a team with OSOP staff to provide consistent support and student development opportunities for Torch Scholars. Graduate Assistants receive a stipend and room/board for the duration of the Program. This is a live-on position with on-call responsibilities. 

Position Responsibilities:
A. Co-teach the class College Seminar (most likely: Mondays-Thursdays 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm.; Fridays, 8:00 am - 9:45 am), work with the Program Director to plan daily lessons, implement curriculum according to Program goals, regularly assess student performance, and evaluate student progress as related to course goals to support each student's transition from high school to college.

B. Plan programs and events including but not limited to: daily study sessions (Community Learning Space-CLS), off-campus excursions, student development workshops, and community service opportunities.

C. Maintain daily communication with Program Director and OSOP Staff regarding student behavior, group dynamic, and student development. Monitor and track progress of each Scholar on a regular basis and share all information with Program Director to ensure student success, development, and safety. Attend Progress Meetings with OSOP Staff and submit student Progress Reports for your Scholar caseload at the end of each week. Scholar case load: 5 students. 

D. Serve as Lead/On-Call GA. Maintain a positive, appropriate, and productive presence during evening and weekend hours with the Scholars. When "on-call," take responsibility for responding in an efficient and appropriate manner to any crisis situations should they occur (follow Crisis Plan as received in GA Training prior to starting the Summer Immersion Program). 

E. Other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director in conjunction with OSOP staff. 

GA's report directly to the Torch Scholars Program Director during the Summer Immersion Program and collaborate with NU professional staff and faculty from Admissions, Residence Life, Career Services, Financial Aid, University Health Counseling Services, Civic Engagement, and teaching faculty. 

Preferred Qualifications:
Enrolled in Masters program in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling.
Teaching experience, in the classroom or through facilitating training.
Appreciation of diversity and understanding of student/adult development. 
A sense of humor.

Stipend:
$3500 paid biweekly 
Room and Board included for full 8 weeks: 19 meals per week on plan

Position Length:
June 20 – August 20 (8 weeks)
