Songwriters & Music Lovers:
“Chez Seychelles" is traditional Cajun waltz. Anne McCabe’s guitar, along with fiddler Jim
Schmidt and Don Henninger on accordion, plays some soulful Cajun. Eddie holds down the bass.
Ensemble, we are “Cypress Quartet”.
The Republic of Seychelles is a cluster (155) of charming islands, an archipelago, situated in the
Indian Ocean, southeast of mainland Eastern Africa. The Seychelles are the smallest African
country.
95% Seychellois speak Seychellois Creole (Seselwa) derived from French, hence the French
musical connection to American Cajun areas, Louisiana and southeast Texas. Possibly, the tune
is originally Seychellois-based and taken up by the Quebecois/Cajun/et al communities. One of
the earlier versions may have been by Michael Doucet with Beausoleil.
