This Saturday (April 22) from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, I'll be teaching a workshop at the School of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park. It's called "Understanding Melodic Style: A look at the principles that make the melodic technique work."
Melodic banjo playing is a powerful extension of bluegrass technique that opens up expansive musical vistas. But it can be confusing. This single-session workshop, aimed at students who have a basic grasp of Scruggs-style playing, will demystify melodic banjo by exploring the principles behind it.
It's one of several events happening on SMT's "Bluegrass Day" (https://schoolofmusicaltraditions.com/classes-workshops/bluegrass-day).
