[dcab-l] Exciting news! DCBU/VFW Bluegrass Jam

Exciting news! We may have found a new space for our beloved VFW Jams.

It's the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation ("Archie's Barbershop") https://www.acousticblues.com . The space is an empty storefront with one very large room in the front and a small room in the back. The small room contains a refrigerator and a sink, and of course there is a bathroom. There are plenty of chairs and a table we can set up in the middle to put our drinks on. We can keep our familiar schedule of 1st and 3rd Monday evenings from 7-10p, plus 1-6p on Monday holidays with a potluck. There is a large parking lot.

This is not a bar so it would be BYOB. Also, the AEBHF is a non-profit and they'd like a donation for our use of the space. They're not demanding any particular amount but $3-4 per person would be reasonable, less if you're hurting, more if you've got it to spare. Proof of vaccination is required and we'd be required to wear a mask except when singing.

It's in downtown Hyattsville just off of Rt. 1.

I realize that with the extremely contagious Omicron variant, people may be hesitant to go out to a group event. Tom and I have had the Covid, so we're immune and not worried. Also, the front room is large enough that 6' social distancing would be no problem.

How does this sound to everyone? Does this sound like a space that we can make a new home? Is Hyattsville an acceptable location? Would you be willing to come out in spite of the pandemic? Please let me know how you feel. Thx!

[dcab-l] Bluegrass Comeback To Southern Maryland

Show number 2 of the Bluegrass Comeback series comes together on Sunday February 20, 2022, with Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass

The Calvert Elks Lodge #2620 in Prince Frederick, MD gave a warm welcome to the Bluegrass community on our first show with The Larry Stephenson Band in January.

Originally established by Jay Armsworthy, after a 15-year stint of the Bluegrass Series at the American Legion in Hughesville, and with the decision to close their doors except for private events led to a new and welcoming home for Bluegrass music. The Calvert Elks #2620 in Prince Frederick, MD is a larger venue with comfortable cushioned seating.

On Sunday February 20, Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass will be playing traditional bluegrass the way it should be played. With a hard driving, lonesome sound. Danny is a favorite all over and he has fans here in Southern Maryland. Bluegrass singer, Alison Krauss considers Danny as one of her 'favorite singers. His voice combines powerful range and soulful blues with a sound like no one else in bluegrass today.'  When Danny was still in high school, he stood alongside his dad, Bob Paisley with the first generation of the Southern Grass. After his dad's passing, he took the leading role of continuing the traditional sound of the Southern Grass. He is certainly a "Bluegrass Troubadour."

Doors will open at Noon with the show starting at 2:00 pm. Tickets for the shows will be $20.00 per person sold at the door only with children under twelve free with a paid adult. Food and beverages will also be available for sale at Noon for a separate price.

The remainder of the series will include the Sideline Bluegrass Band on Sunday March 13, 2022, and Sunday May 1, 2022, a new group on the circuit, Fast Track Bluegrass BandTroy Jones will be our sound engineer for the event. Opening each show will be show host, Jay Armsworthy, along with a different special guest for each show. The Calvert Elks #2620 is located at 1015 Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick, MD. For more information about the shows or tickets, call 301-737-3004 or go to https://bluegrasscomeback.webador.com/

[dcab-l] Live Version: "Streets of Baltimore"

Songwriters & Music Lovers:

"Streets of Baltimore" is a heavily covered country song written by Tompall

Glaser and Harlan Howard in 1966.   Country artist Bobby Bare was the first to

record the song, and released his Chet Atkins-produced version in June 1966;

the Glasers recorded theirs in September 1966.  Gram Parsons’ (born Ingram

Cecil Connor III) version of the song was featured on the HBO series The Wire,

which is set in Baltimore.  Parsons also recorded the song on his album GP.  For

myself, I learned this song from bluegrass artist Charlie Moore from his cassette

Avery County”.  This song appeared on my CD Acoustic Inventions:

Rattlesnake Hill  Musicians:

   Keith Arneson      Banjo

   Lou Janesko        Fiddle

   Tom Grey             Bass

   Ed Schaeffer        Guitar & Vocals
