Nationwide, more than one-third of all black and Latino students attend schools that are more than 90% nonwhite. In this post, Kimberly Quick and Jenna Tomasello reflect on how desegregation has been deemphasized over the last 30 years as accountability policies have become more prevalent. The Power of A Positive Interaction: Using Asset-Based Engagement Strategies
As a middle school teacher, Amanda Klein struggled to reach the family of one of her students, but the reason was not what she expected. When she finally connected with her student's mother, they were able to work together to bring about dramatic changes in the student's approach to school. Amanda has now founded a consulting firm, Structured Solutions, that helps schools, districts, and nonprofits take an asset-based approach that highlights strengths in the various ways families and communities support students.
