[YEP-DC] REGISTRATION IS LIVE: YEP-DC Policy to Practice Conference, Saturday, May 6th

YEP-DC is excited to announce the 5th annual Policy to Practice Conference, "Catalyzing Change from the Bottom Up", to be held Saturday, May 6th at KIPP DC College Preparatory in northeast Washington, DC. There are a few different ways you can get involved: as a participant, as a conference volunteer, as a facilitator, or as a sponsor/vendor at our opportunity fair!


If you wish to attend as a participant, you will be prompted to select a position/interest area in the ed space so you can be slated for one of our 3 tracks: policy, practice, or research.


If you are thinking of facilitating a session, start thinking about which content area your session would fall under: Leadership & Learning, Teaching & Leading for Equity, and Professional Development (descriptions of each can be found HERE).

Beans in the Belfry is an eccentric cafe in downtown Brunswick. The venue is worth a visit if you've never made it. Housed in a 110+ year old church, it's furnished with yard sale furnishings of every imaginable sort. Nooks and crannies for reading or relaxing, trunks of costumes and toys for kids, and a decent menu of light fare, a 1000 beverages including craft beers and local wines, and more. [YEP-DC] Tonight! YEP-DC Adopt a School Volunteer Event

Come join us tonight to help us on our Adopt-A-School event. Have fun with Payne elementary students and their math projects!

Help us support our DCPS Adopt-a-School Partner Payne Elementary School by volunteering at their Spring Math Night! Payne ES is hosting a Math Night for children and families on Tuesday March 21st. Set up will begin at 5:30pm, and the event will run from 6:00-7:30pm. Volunteers will be greeting and directing visitors and helping at various activity stations.

[YEP-DC] YEPDC Making Your Voice Heard: Grassroots Advocacy Training for Educators, Thurs. March 30

Looking to be a more engaged, active citizen in 2017?

In the midst of this tumultuous and divisive political environment, you may be looking for opportunities to build your advocacy muscle and be a more effective citizen advocate. As part of our Education and Equity series, we are bringing you a grassroots advocacy workshop on how you can drive community change and make your voice heard on education and other issues you care about.

On Thursday, March 30 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, join us for "Making Your Voice Heard: Grassroots Advocacy Training for Education Advocates." 

We will explore:
  • Effective tools and tactics to influence policy at the federal, state or local level
  • How to build a grassroots movement and organize community action
  • Local education opportunities and community initiatives that you can support
This event will take place at the True Reformer Building, Marsh Conference room, 1200 U Street, NW, Washington, DC. The closest metro is U Street.
