[YEP-DC] Letter to Members from the President of YEP-DC
On behalf of the YEP-DC Leadership Team, I would like to wish you and your families Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
We are thankful for your membership! We are also thankful for your participation in many of our activities this year whether our Partnership Happy Hours, YEP- Policy to Practice Conference, Inaugural Mentorship Program, our 2 EduJob events, our inaugural Education and Equity series, our 2nd annual Next Steps Professional Development series and other events. We started an Adopt-a-School program with Payne Elementary School, where we raised $350 for books for their students. We held a survey regarding your outlook in the education world. We are thankful for our writers on Recess blog and for organizations that post on our YEP-DC Postings..
We are thankful for you for supporting these events and sharing it with your friends and colleagues. This could not have been done without you. I'm incredibly thankful for the YEP-DC Executive Board and the Leadership Team for their hard work in putting these events together.. I'm thankful for our YEP-DC Advisory Committee for their advice and assistance in providing resources to our organization.
It has been a growing year for us and we look forward to continuing many of the programs we offer year-round in order to prepare your for the next steps in your education career. We will be holding our first membership awards on Feb. 2nd as part of our YEP-DC Members Reception. We ask for your nomination of colleagues who should be recognized by YEP-DC.
We are already at work for our events such as EduJobs (Late February), Policy to Practice Conference (Early May), and other new professional development and community engagement events. Our hope as an organization is to be an assistance in your educational career. So we welcome your thoughts, let us know what events you would like to see or if you want to volunteer with us.
As we close 2016, there are changes on the horizon as we will be having a new U.S. Secretary of Education and a new DCPS Chancellor. But, this provides an opportunity for YEP-DC to be in the forefront and grow our members to be the drivers of change in education here in DC and in our nation.
We wish you the best and we look forward to having you join us at our events in 2017!
Sincerely,
Emmanuel Caudillo
YEP-DC President

[dcab-l] Woody and Dad sing "Away in a Manger"
Friends of Christmas Present:
This is the eighth year my son Woody and I have recorded a Christmas Carol. Others
we've done in years past:
In 2009 "Star of Bethlehem"
In 2010 "Silent Night"
In 2011 "Silver Bells"
In 2012 "Blue Christmas"
In 2013 "White Christmas"
In 2014 "Winter Wonderland"
In 2015 "The Friendly Beasts"
For 2016 we've recorded "Away in a Manger". Woody did the recording, mixing, and
sang both baritone and tenor; Dad sang lead and played the guitar and bass.
I used an 09 Martin Marquis and my fretless Rob Allen bass.
" Away in a Manger" is a Christmas carol first published in the late 19th century
and used widely throughout the English-speaking world. In Britain, it is one of the
most popular carols; a 1996 Gallup Poll ranked it joint second. Although it was long
claimed to be the work of German religious reformer Martin Luther, the carol is now
thought to be wholly American in origin.
Please enjoy, and we wish everyone a happy and healthy Holiday Season! (Older
Christmas songs are already on the selection list).

[dcab-l] Martin Guitar Christmas: All Through the Night
Friends of Christmas 2016:
Here's a Christmas song from a live performance by the ”All Mixed Up” band:
Barry Wendell Rhythm Guitar and Vocals (bell voce)
Ed Schaeffer Martin Guitar and Harmony
Greg Nelson Bass
“Ar Hyd y Nos” is a Welsh folksong sung to a tune first recorded in Edward
Jones' “Musical and Poetical Relics of the Welsh Bards” (1784). The Welsh lyrics
were written by John Ceiriog Hughes, and have been translated into several
languages, including English.
The melody was used by John Gay in “The Beggar's Opera”. It is also used in
the hymn "Go My Children With My Blessing." The song is highly popular with
traditional Welsh male voice choirs, and is sung by them at festivals in Wales and
around the world.
The song is also sometimes considered a Christmas carol, and as such has
been performed by many artists, including Olivia Newton-John and Michael
McDonald’s duet on the 2007 album “Christmas Wish”. Cerys Matthews sang it
solo on her 2010 album “Tir”.
To listen, click below, and Merry Christmas!:

Enjoy!
