[dcab-l] All Mixed Up Live: "Edelweiss" Singalong

Songwriters & Music Lovers:

Here is an All Mixed Up cover of Oscar Hammersteins classic Edelweiss, appearing in

the 1959 Broadway production of The Sound of Music; it was the last song Rodgers and

Hammerstein wrote together.  Edelweiss lyrics reflect the longing for and loyalty to

Austria, where the Edelweiss flourishes in its natural habitat:

All Mixed Up musicians:

[dcab-l] Reach out and get involved!

Hey Folks- reaching out to our 'local' musician stakeholders in our bluegrass music community.

I'm writing to inform you of DCBU's current leadership opportunities in hopes you would  consider lending your talents to the cause of a stronger, more active bluegrass community.

DCBU is the primary non-profit bluegrass promoter with a wide DC/MD/VA (DMV) perspective. We're looking to increase the presence of bluegrass music from the Shenandoah to the Annapolis/Baltimore area. We've put on eight DC Bluegrass Festivals in the past. Since Covid we have stayed more locally based with great jamming in DC and Maryland, more band performance and jamming opportunities at the Old School House in Lucketts, Virginia, as well as celebratory Bluegrass Birthday Bash jams/performances that honor our local bluegrass heroes, all to attain our common goal of uniting the bluegrass community and promoting the music to others.

We're working to strengthen the connection between our board 's vision and priorities with the local musicians for whom we work to assist. The DC Bluegrass Union has been working to provide events that pay our working local musicians. Our 2024 FebFest at Earp's Ordinary we hired 17 local bands over four weekends of with phenomenal bluegrass performances! Likewise, our monthly Open Mic at Lucketts Schoolhouse in Leesburg, Virginia over the fall, winter, and spring was able to put bands front and center for gigging opportunities at that historic venue. Sure enough, several bands were able to land performances opening for their Saturday shows.  We're glad to add that this program will be returning in the fall.

In order to keep these opportunities rolling, DCBU needs assistance- and input- from our local players on where, when, and how to present future opportunities.  We are not expecting a large time commitment. We hope you can attend a monthly zoom meeting to coordinate priorities and effort, augmented by an occasional retreat (held locally) to discuss longer term initiatives. Of course, there will be the essential follow-up to initiate our planned initiatives. We are counting on many hands making light work. Our success with finding volunteers from around the area will allow us to expand our activities to make for a more connected and thriving community.

Our new president, Carolyn Eyerly, now leads our board as we actively pursue our goals. Please reach out to Carolyn or to me if you are interested in joining our Board of Directors in helping DCBU continue their mission of growth and expansion of bluegrass music in the DCBU DMV region.

The DCBU's enthusiastic Board is always open to new and hear your fresh ideas; and you would have a real opportunity to have your voice heard and to give your ideas life! Please consider becoming part of a dynamic group whose love of the bluegrass music and passion for providing opportunities is secondary to none.  Please join us!

If you know of someone who would be a perfect candidate, please share this email.

We'll be happy to extend an invite to our next board meeting (on zoom) if you'd like an idea of how things are done. You'll get a chance to add you perspective as well.

We're looking to work together for more opportunities to play, and listen. Hope you'll consider joining in.
