[dcab-l] For Summer's Start: "Loafin' Time"

Songwriters & Music Lovers:

Loafin Time was a popular song from 1935, with words and music written by Arthur

Altman and Milton Ager.  These days, those two artists are mostly forgotten, and the

song is now ascribed to Fats Waller, who recorded it in 1936.

Both early versions were a bit up-tempo, jaunty pop renditions, not really resembling

“loafing”.  However, for my rendition, I changed the feeling to a slower tempo, reminiscent of

a hot summer’s day lull, and recorded it with jazz musicians from the D.C. area.  We did this

in one take, while I sang directly into Paul’s acoustic guitar.  The cut appeared within the

acoustic jazz CD called Karma Machine released in 2013:
