Hey folks, Giving is Good. If not to
DCBU.org, then somewhere else! Just make sure they are a 501(c)3, like us, and put 100% of your donation toward the cause, like us (you know we're a total volunteer organization). We've been busy making things happen this year, so jump aboard this bluegrass train! We'll be announcing another stop soon!
Here's some of what we've been up to...
Worked with local musicians to facilitate more than FIFTY JAMS that approached 1,500 hours of musical opportunity in and around the DC Area. We've got 2 recurring events- one in DC one in Maryland- to get folks together and make music. Sincere thanks go to Barb Diederich and Ed Schaffer for going strong in Hyattsville with the Archie Edward Foundation Jam in Hyattsville. You can find them there on first and third Mondays from 7-10 PM. Word is that you can usually find a member of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame there too…The DuPont DCBU jam has been rolling for over 10 years now and enjoys a cool downtown vibe at the unique and celebrated Mansion on O Street on the first and third Sundays of each month. We thank a dedicated bunch, including Malcolm Versel, Josh Bell, Bill Thompson, Ken Mayer, Rebecca Krafft and Ben Schifman for keeping things rolling at the O Street Mansion all these years!
We are appreciative to both of our host organizations for their assistance keeping jamming accessible to all. Jamming cuts to the core of who we are- educational for practice and learning and a social connection with the music we love. Get out of the house and jam!
One more thing- Member up! Your annual membership helps keep the the jams jamming, and the music flowing. Just $25 bucks for individuals!
Some more for your reading pleasure....
We arranged two SUPER community celebration events honoring local luminaries- Bob Perilla, Mary Cliff and Tom Knowles- with great music and jamming. The Bob Perilla's Big Hillbilly Birthday Jamboree was held in Bethesda in June and featured some great music with @Moose Jaw Bluegrass and many guest players and friends. Bob's got a LOT of friends!
We were in Virginia in October- a reschedule of the spring Pick-nic- and celebrated Mary and Tom with a cook-out burgers and music. Both events were well attended (thanks to all!) and everyone left with a better appreciation of the great musical community that we enjoy- and our honorees who have been integral to making it that way.
Jump on over to our membership page here to join in and support our ongoing efforts to make and support bluegrass. The community is best served by all getting involved. A $25 membership is a good way to start! DCBU is a Non-Profit 501c(3) organization, so any donation would be good for the tax return!
Theres more to come, but wanted folks to see this on an important night for all non-profits!
Cheers.
