[dcab-l] Music for Life needs guitar teachers
http://www.musicforlife.org/
I am sending this out my jam friends on behalf of the Music for Life
organization, a NoVa/Metro group that provides "after-school music
programs for youth and underserved adult populations; drumming
sessions for younger youth, acoustic guitar lessons for older
students, and electric and bass guitar lessons for experienced
students. "
I teach for them at a weekly after-school class in Sterling when
school is in session.
They have an immediate need for a teacher in the Centreville VA area.
I hope that one of you can help.
They may also need teachers or classroom assistants in other Metro locations.
If you can help, please email me and I will provide more specifics.
Thanks!
Best regards,
Dirk Johnson

[dcab-l] Tom & Ben Paley at IMT on Feb. 8
Tickets: $15 advance, $20 door.
Students (with ID) & Children: $12 advance, $17 door.
Available at http://www.imtfolk.org
IMT presents a true Folk Icon: Tom Paley, one of the founders of the New Lost City Ramblers, and his son, Ben Paley.
Tom Paley recorded his first album Folk Songs of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, for Jac Holzman's then-new Elektra Records in 1953. On May 25, 1958, Tom, John Cohen and Mike Seeger played together live on air for John Dildine's weekly folk music radio show on WASH-FM: this was the first appearance of what later became the New Lost City Ramblers.
Paley later said:
"When we formed The New Lost City Ramblers it was the kind of thing I'd been doing for quite a few years.... It didn't feel particularly revolutionary to me but I understood we had quite an impact on young people like Dylan."
At age 84, Tom's second album for Hornbeam Recordings, "Paley & Son," was released in May 2015, and is shared with his son Ben. It follows on from the roaring success of "Roll On, Roll On". Tom is passing on the baton to Ben who weighs in with some wonderful fiddle playing.
We booked this show at short notice so we wouldn't miss the opportunity to present the extraordinary musician. Please join us for the show, and help us spread the word!
