What a grand evening of classic country music from the 40s to the 60s was experienced by those attending the BLUE MOON COWGIRLS concert at the WEEEKEND BLUEGRASS CONCERT SERIES in Herndon, Virginia last night . Great vocals and instrumentation along with a good smattering of humor tells the tale - a totally entertaining evening. Many THANKS to all those in attendance and a very special THANK YOU to the band - Karen Collins, Anne Porcella, Ira Gitlin and Sally Love Connell. Check them out for yourself folks, they are the real deal.

[dcab-l] jam in Brunswick

Tomorrow is the 4th Sunday of the month. We have the stage from 3- 6 PM at Beans in the Belfry for bluegrass jamming. Beans is at 122W Potomac St in downtown Brunswick. It's an eccentric Cafe in a 100+ year old church. There's no cover but they do offer a wide selection of light fare and beverages including the adult variety if you're hungry or thirsty. Come pick if you can.

The Hazel Dickens Song Contest for 2018

The DC Bluegrass Union is pleased to announce the opening for entries to the Hazel Dickens Song Contest for 2018.

Celebrating the life and muse of one of bluegrass music's most beloved and influential songwriters, the Hazel Dickens Song Contest commemorates her songwriting genius by providing an opportunity for today's original bluegrass songwriters to receive recognition and rewards for their talent.

Prizes:
First place: $500, an invitation to perform the winning song on stage at the 2018 DC Bluegrass Festival (March 9-10), and a full-festival pass for two.
Second place: $250.
Third place: $100.

“Momma’s Gone" is an original song written by my Philadelphia friend and

songwriter, Fred Moore. It’s a “Mother Song” so popular in bluegrass and other

genre, and describes Daddy’s heart rending decline after Momma’s death.

This song appears on a CD entitled “19^th Century Man”, a compilation of all

Fred Moore songs. The CD cover was photographed at a farm in Sandy Spring, Md.

Like last year, the Sterling Golf Club Acoustic Music Jam is moving to
Neighbors Restaurant and Pub in Vienna VA for the Winter months, with
a 5 PM start time.
